About the event

Get a taste of the flavours of Yorkshire in a brand new free-to enter family-friendly food festival.
Flavours of Yorkshire is at Galtres Retreat & Lodge Park, Pickering, on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July 2026.
The new festival will feature artisan food and drink traders, street food stalls, BBQ competition, family entertainment, fairground rides – and headlined by celebrity North Yorkshire chef James Martin.
James Martin will be serving up live cookery demonstrations and signing copies of his books on the Saturday, and Sunday will see local culinary talent take to the stage for a series of free to enter demos hosted by Gilly Robinson of The Cook’s Place.
The new festival is organised by Mark Brayshaw of Rockin’ Horse Promotions, who ran Malton’s renowned Food Lovers Festival for many years – and is excited to bring this family-friendly event to Pickering.
“I’ve seen first hand just how many people can be drawn to Ryedale by our fantastic array of local food and drink producers,” said Mark.
“I am delighted to have James Martin on board to launch this new event with three cookery demo sessions on Saturday 4 July – in what will be something of a homecoming for him, having grown up in nearby Malton.
“But people looking for more than just another food festival are also in for a treat – Galtres Retreat & Lodge Park, with its landscaped grounds, the indoor arena and a massive on-site car park, is the perfect large-scale venue for a ‘pick and mix’ of food, drink, music, leisure and fun.
“And indeed, with so much space to work with we can combine a few features that have not been possible before, including The Whole Hog Professional BBQ Competition, sponsored by Cranswick, Yorkshire Baker and Weber. During the competition there will also be free demos and talks from BBQ industry experts.”
Admission to the festival will be free, with free car and coach parking on-site to keep the cost to visitors low.
“We know that personal budgets are stretched at the moment, so we were keen to make sure that this was an affordable day out for everyone – we’d much rather people spent their cash on the great produce on offer than admission fees or parking,” added Mark.
“We’re hoping that people come with an empty belly and leave fully satisfied at the end of each day.”
Another new feature at Flavours of Yorkshire will be ‘Electric Avenue’, a display of new electric cars and bikes, with models from established and new-to-the-UK manufacturers on display.
